ATTRIBUTES OF THE DEVILS

 All praise is due to Allah, we seek His help and forgiveness, we seek refuge with Him from the evils of ourselves and our evil deeds. Whoever Allah guides cannot be misguided by anyone and whoever Allah sets astray cannot be guided by anyone. I bear witness that none deserves the right to be worshiped except Allah alone who has no partner and I bear witness that our master Muhammad is His servant and messenger.

You should fear Allah O servants of Allah and know that the strongest word is the word of piety and true blindness is straying after guidance.

Allah alone has the power of handling the universe, he doesn’t have any partner in his dominion, he repeals calamity and uproots tribulation at the time when some people resort to sorcerers and magicians to solve their problems, to actualize their desires and to ask them about the unseen, ignorantly thinking that those possess any benefit or harm, Allah says: “and the magician will not succeed wherever he is” [20:69]

Magicians and sorcerers connive with their masters from amongst the Jinn and devils. The Jinn is another world of living creatures who live with us, we don’t see them but they see us, their presence preceded the creation of humans, Allah had created them from fire for the same purpose in which humans were created (worship), Allah says: “And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship me” [51:56] Whoever obeys and fears Allah among the jinn would have the ultimate price of Jannah and whoever does otherwise would have the most humiliating price of hell fire. The jinn have limited capabilities, they can’t influence anything in this universe except by the will of Allah.

There is no person among humans except that he/she has a companion from among the jinn, they are in terms of piety or otherwise of different levels, there are ones who are steadfast and some of them are among the strayed. Sheikhul Islam said: Ignorance and injustice happen among the jinn, they will be punished as they deserve”.

One of their preachers came to the messenger of Allah, the prophet went with him and recited the Quran for them, he had a conversation with them and taught them the religion of Allah. The jinn would testify on the day of judgement for those among whom they heard their voices calling for the prayer. Among the jinn are those who call upon the way of Allah, Allah says in the words of the jinn preacher: “Our people, respond to the messenger of Allah and believe in him” [46:31]

Iblis is the father of the jinn and he has offspring, he is alive and is spared to live until the day of judgement. His Arsh is on the sea and he is seated on it, he sends his soldiers to throw among people evil. He is a very ugly creature, he has a heart, eyes, ears and fingers. The sun rises in between his two horns, he eats and drinks with left hand. The devils live on this earth that we live in and they live in larger numbers in places of impurity, they like sitting in between shade and sunny areas, the messenger (peace be upon him) deprived us from doing that. They also live in the markets in large numbers.

The devil urinates in the ear of a servant while he sleeps from performing subh prayer until he wakes up, the devil hates to hear the call to prayer, he leaves whenever he hears that. Whoever doesn’t call upon the name of Allah while entering his home, the devil sleeps in his house with him. Whoever eats without mentioning the name of Allah, the devil eats with him, and if he remembers then mentions the name of Allah, the devil throws up what he had consumed.

The Satan enjoins every evil and deprives from every good deed, he frightens the rich with poverty and enjoins them to be miserly. He runs away whenever he sees the people of faith, Umar Bin Khattab didn’t follow any road, except that the Satan followed a different one, he was scared of Umar. He lies when he speaks and enjoins servants to be sinful  claiming to be a sincere advisor, Allah says: “And he swore [by Allah] to them, “indeed, I am to you from among the sincere advisors.” [7:21] He plotted against our parents (Adam and Eve) and he caused their eviction from the heaven. He established Shirk (associating partners with Allah) on earth by deceitfully creating a stray attachment to pious people and lured people to worshiping them. Yusuf (AS) stayed longer in prison because of Satan, Allah says: “but Satan made him forget the mention [to] his master, and Joseph remained in prison several years” [12:42]

The Satan is very arrogant and envious person, his hatred towards our father Adam made him to not only plot against him but he promised to extend his hatred to us the sons and daughters of Adam (AS) by misleading us.

Finally, Allah says in the Quran: “O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, we have made the devils allies to those who do not believe” [7:27]
