IN THE NAME OF ALLAH MOST GRACIOUS MOST MERCIFUL
AL – NOOR MASJID, ICICE, WUSE II, ABUJA
Jumu’ah Khutbah Translation, 20th Rabi ul Awwal 1442AH, equivalent to 6th November 2020TRUTHFULNESS THE HEAD OF ALL VIRTUES
All praise due to Allah, we praise Him, we seek His help and beg for His forgiveness. Whomsoever Allah guides shall not be lead astray and whomsoever is lead astray shall find none to guide him. I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and I bear witness that prophet Muhammad (SAW) is His servant and messenger.
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed, Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
O mankind! Fear Allah, among the moralities upon which Islam has called us is truthfulness. Truthfulness is bringing something in its reality. It is among the best qualities a man should possess and be qualified with. Allah has ordered His believing servant with truthfulness and keeping company with those who are truthful. Allah says: “O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are true”.
O the followers of Islam! Truthfulness has many virtues and bounties among which are the following:
1. it is an attribute of Allah.
Allah says: “And they will say, “Praise to Allah, Who has fulfilled for us His promise and made us inherit the earth [so] we may settle in Paradise wherever we will. And excellent is the reward of [righteous] workers.” (Azzumar:47). Also, He says:” And who is more truthful than Allah in statement”. (Annisah:87)
2. It is an attribute of our beloved prophet Muhammad (SAW) before and after his prophet hood. Thus, he was called ” Al-ameen” (the trustworthy), Asadiq Al-masdooq ” the truthful and reliable person). He once summoned the Quraish in Makkah asking and saying: ” inform me, if I were to tell you that an army is coming to invade you from behind this valley, will you agree and trust me? ” they said: ” we’ve never experienced any lie from you”. Also, during the jahliyyah (period of ignorance before the advent of Islam) it happened that the Quraish renovated the sacred house of Allah and then differed among them as to who is the best person to put the blacsk stone to its proper place. It became an argument and they nearly fought until they eventually agreed to make the first person who entered through the door of the sacred house an arbitrator. By Allah’s will, prophet Muhammad (PBUH) happened to be the person who entered afterward through the door. On seeing him, they all shouted and said: ” Al-amin! Al-amin! The trustworthy has come. we are pleased with Al-amin” referring to the prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This happened five years before he was made prophet.
3. It is an attribute of the prophets in general. Allah says concerning prophet Ibrahim: “And mention in the Book [the story of] Abraham. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet.”(Maryam:41). concerning prophet Ismail, He says: “And mention in the Book, Ishmael. Indeed, he was true to his promise, and he was a messenger and a prophet. “(Maryam:54). concerning prophet Idrees He says: “And mention in the Book, Idrees. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet. “(Maryam:56). Concerning prophet Yusuf, He said: “Said [the king to the women], “What was your condition when you sought to seduce Joseph?” They said, “Perfect is Allah! We know about him no evil.” The wife of al-‘Azeez said, “Now the truth has become evident. It was I who sought to seduce him, and indeed, he is of the truthful”. (yusuf:51)
4. It is one of the factors of gaining admission into paradise. Says the prophet (SAW): ” adhere to truthfulness for truthfulness leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to paradise”.
5. It’s among the signs of the true believers as the opposite is among the signs of hypocrites. Says the people (SAW): “the signs of the hypocrites are three” among which is that when he talks, he lies.
6. Forgiveness of Allah is earned by it. Allah says :”Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the women who do so, and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so – for them Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward”.(AL-Ahzab:35)
7. It makes a believer accompany the Prophet (SAW) in Paradise as said by Allah: “And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger – those will be with the ones upon whom Allah has bestowed favor of the prophets, the steadfast affirmers of truth, the martyrs and the righteous. And excellent are those as companions.”
8. It brings blessing to one’s provisions in all dealings. Hakim b. Hizam reported God’s Messenger as saying, “Both parties in a business transaction have a right to annul it so long as they have not separated ; and if they tell the truth and make everything clear they will be blessed in their transaction, but if they conceal anything and lie the blessing on their transaction will be blotted out.”
O servants of Allah! Truthfulness is not restricted only to what we say but also encompasses what we do. Be truthful in words and actions. The greatest area of truthfulness is the one between a servant and his Lord. Worship your Lord, obey him, follow his prophet and believe in him sincerely and truthfully. Don’t be a hypocrite who falsefully claims to believe and follows Islam. Also, be truthful and sincere in your dealings and interactions with the servants of Allah. Don’t cheat, don’t harm and intimidate others. Be sincere, honest, fair and just to everyone you treat, interact or deal with. Control your soul from pushing and driving you anyhow. Be its driver and don’t let it be your driver. Says the prophet (SAW): “All men go out early in the morning and sell themselves, thereby setting themselves free or destroying themselves”. narrated by Muslim.
O servants of Allah! Truthfulness is among the best qualities a man is ever remembered of before and after his death. Abubakar – May Allah be pleased with him – is called “Assiddeeq” before and after his death because of his truthfulness in his actions, faith and belief in Prophet Muhammad (SAW). He believed in him when many disbelieved. He was the first person to believe in the prophet when he informed them about his night journey to Jerusalem and heavens known as “Al-isra wal mi’raj”. He supported and defended him when many did not believe him about the event. For this reason, He was called Assiddeeq, i.e the truthful. And till date he is been remembered and called that name.
O Followers of Muhammad (SAW)! Truthfulness and honesty are needed, essential and necessary in our speeches, conversations, gatherings, and interactions with our fellow Muslims and the non-Muslims, with our parents, wives, husbands, children, neighbors, elders, seniors, juniors, leaders and servants. It is necessary in any responsibility given to us and any position we find ourselves. Our gatherings should be cleaned of fabrications, lies, falsehood, backbiting, gossiping, slandering, defamation and character assassination.
Dear brothers and sisters in Islam! Stop the spread of fake news on media especially the social media. Before you spread any news or information, verify and confirm, Think about its positive and negative effect. Send it to the right persons or groups who are intelligent enough to comprehend and understand.
Finally, O servants of Allah! We need in our nation leaders who will talk and speak for our interest and good. Leaders whose aim is not fame, popularity, appraisal and show off. When they represent, they represent us for our interest and development, not for amassing wealth and public funds. We need scholars who will sincerely teach us our religion. We need orators, clerics, preachers, imams who will tell us the truth, who will look, study, then discuss and find solutions to our affairs, problems, and challenges in our communities and the nation at large. We want people who are God – fearing, truthful, honest and trustworthy so that the country can be pushed forward to the next level and the youth and citizens will enjoy, live happily and peacefully. May Allah it easy and see us through.
We seek Allah’s peace, blessing and salutation upon the soul of our noble prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, companions and those who follow their path with righteousness to the day of judgment.NOVEMBER 6, 2020/
