Jumma’ah Khutbah Translation, 12th, Dhu al-qi’dah 1441AH, equivalent to 3rd July, 2020

All praise is due to Allah the controller of everything, May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon His messenger, his household, his companions and those who follow their path till the last day. Allah says: “No affliction comes about but by Allah’s permission; and whoever believes in Allah, He guides aright his heart.” [Attaghabun:11]. Afflictions and disasters are signs of warning from Allah to His sinful servants, Allah Says: and “we do not send signs but to make {people} fear”. [Al-Israa: 59]. For this fact, it is compulsory to repent to Allah and be steadfast on his commands before it is late.

Oh Servant of Allah! Allah has created everything and appointed a measure and cause for their existence. Obedience to Allah and His Messenger is a cause of every kind of goodness, while sins result in afflictions and tribulations. Allah says: “Now whatever calamity may befall you will be an outcome of what your own hands have wrought, although He pardons much” [Ash-Shu’ara’:30]; and He also says: “and never would We destroy a community unless its people are accustomed to doing wrong to one another” [Al-Qasas: 59]; and another verse says: “so each We punished for his sin; of them were some on whom We sent a violent wind with shower of stones, and of them were some who were overtaken by a sudden blast; and some of them We caused to be swallowed by the earth; and some of them We caused to drown. And it is not God who wronged them, but it was they who had wronged themselves.” [Al-Ankabut:40].

Oh you who believe! Committing sin has an ill effect in the life of individuals, societies, countries and so on. It causes backwardness in our stability, prosperity, and security. All the trials which we witness and live in, such as killings, pandemics, diseases, disasters and poverty are resulted from our sins and bad deeds which because of such deeds, Allah had destroyed nations before us. Allah says: “did We not destroy so many of those sinners of olden days? And We shall let them followed by those of later times”. [Al-Mursalaat: 16-17]; and He also says “do they not consider how many a generation We have destroyed before them, whom We had established in the earth, as We sent the clouds pouring rain on them in abundance, and We made them the rivers to flow beneath them, then We destroyed on account of their faults, and raised up after them another generation.” [Al-An’am 6]. He says in another verse: “So, the evil results of that which they earned overtook them. And those who did wrong of these people to whom you Muhammad have been sent will also be overtaken by the evil results for what which they earned, and they will never be able to escape.” [Az-Zumar-51].

O servants of Allah! Finally, in order to get out of our problems and the conditions which we are now living in presently, the only solutions that will improve our stability, prosperity and Security are:

1-   To abstain from committing sins as best as we can, Allah says: “and if the people of the towns had believed and guarded against evil, We would certainly have opened up for them blessings from heaven and earth.” [Al-A’raf: 96].

2-   To return to our Lord by changing our bad deeds into good ones. Allah says: “and that if they should keep to the right way, We would certainly give them to drink of abundant water”. [Al-Jinn]. He also says: “This is because Allah has never changed a favor which He has conferred upon a people until they change their condition”. [Al-Anfal: 53].

3-   To engage in repentance and seeking Allah’s forgiveness as He has promised not to destroy people who seek His forgiveness. He said: “Nor is Allah going to chastise them while yet they ask for forgiveness” [Al-Anfal: 33]. He also says: “Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers and give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.” [Nuh:10-12].

May Allah forgive us and may He grant us goodness and change our conditions.
