Jumma’ah Khutbah Translation, 7th Safar 1442AH, equivalent to 25th September, 2020

INDEPENDENCE DAY

All praise is due to Allah. I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship but Him Who said: “Prepare against them whatever arms and cavalry you can muster, that you may strike terror in (the hearts of) the enemies of God and your own, and others besides them not known to you, but known to God. Whatever you spend in the way of God will be paid back to you in full, and no wrong will be done to you.” Qur’an 8:60. And Prophet Muhammad is His final Messenger who said: “O Allah! I seek refuge with You from worry and grief, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, from being heavily in debt and from being overpowered by (other) men. Al-Bukhari 7/158.

Brothers and sisters fear Allah.

Coming Thursday is the 1st of October 2020 that marks the sixtieth anniversary for Nigeria after attaining independence from the British rule.

Many countries celebrate independence (national) day to remember the day self-rule is attained. It is worth celebrating to be free form disenfranchisement and slavery in whatever name it is.

Many countries were colonized and disenfranchised in different ways and methods for long time. some even up to more than three centuries.

Colonialists colonize countries and impose new cultures, norms on them in the name of developing them but the sole aim is to enslave them to take away the natural resources. No more no less.

Colonialism has different methods:

  1. Torture
  2. Annihilation
  3. Deculturalization
  4. Changing of mind set
  5. Starvation
  6. Confiscation of wealth
  7. Terrorism: killing the well informed, wise and knowledgeable in the society
  8. Distorting and cutting generations from their history, literacy and education
  9. Employing divide and rule tactic
  10. Making victims believe that technological development is linked to colonialism and many more.

Old colonialism forced out after “second world war” due to new wind of capitalism.  It left residue as well as new colonialism which caused the following and more:

  1. Imposed:
    1. alien culture and language
    2. alien rules and laws
    3. alien and unfavorable boundaries
    4. alien life style, food and medications
    5. educational systems that favors them mainly
    6. unjust economic and financial systems
    7. the culture of reliance on foreign aid
    8. civil and national development that looks in favor of the victim nation while truly it favors the colonialists.
  2. Ensured that victim’s natural resources are being channeled to them continuedly in the way that favors them better
  3. Turn victim countries into dumping ground
  4. Cause some disasters that sound natural
  5. Unfavorable terms and conditions for bilateral relations agreements be it trade or anything else
  6. Leaving behind who and what would sustain and ensure freedom and independence are foiled
  7. Use of media to tarnish image and promote fake impressions and perceptions
  8. Deployment of strategy that was time-proven: problem-reaction-solution.

Other new ways and methods of slavery are being introduced. Especially through debt and Riba, media, insurgency, unrest, diseases, cyber slavery et c.

Examples:

A metal exchange market in a capital city of a colonialist is the world center for trade of industrial metals. Few years ago, annual deals reached over $10t.  That is 4 times the size of the economy of the whole country where the metal exchange market is located. Hardly the nations that produce the metals represented the dealings.

Another example is that there is an African country with many gold mining sites but no gold bullion storage. While its colonialist has no gold mining sites but have lot of gold bullion storages. The same country has uranium but its cities are in darkness while the so-called colonial master have no uranium but cities lighted with uranium nuclear energy electricity.

An Asian country that suffered in the hands of the unjust nations hired their companies to explore and find out if it has oil. The answer was negative. But when it developed its own drillship it found out that it has about 320b m3 of natural gas about 2 months ago. The same gas that is being flared away by some countries.

Blame game would not get us developed and freed from the claws of the enslaving remnants of the so-called colonial masters.

Here are some ways to make nations free from such slavery:

  1. Absolute service and slavery are to Allah alone.
  2. Reading history. Be proud of ours.
  3. Wisdom our lost property. We take it from whosoever.
  4. Self-sufficiency in production of food, water, medication, armament, ICT, manufacturing et c.
  5. Having well-armed and trained forces for protection and prevention.
  6. Ability of extracting and processing natural resources without necessarily seeking foreign help.
  7. Keep self and nation protected from misinformation and

We live in a world where one cannot afford not have strength, leverage, will and influence for rights to be respected and honored and for real independence and freedom as well. Weakness is not an option. We can’t be free and independent if we still believe what colonial masters impose on us is better than ours and confuse expensive brand name with quality. This is an inferiority complex that need to be get rid of.

Gaining freedom and development needs our hard work, sacrifice, patience and finally dependance and reliance on Allah.

In commemorating the 2020 day of older persons, we ask Allah to bless and give the best of rewards older persons in the society and keep them supported.

We congratulate our nation for coming this far after attaining independence. We ask Allah to grant our nation more prosperous years with strength, development, wellbeing, unity, and progress. May He, also, keep us guided and guarded. May He as well ease our affairs, improve our economy, and remove the hardship we are experiencing.
