THE SIX ATTRIBUTES THAT LEADS TO PARADISE
All praise is due to Allah. I testify that there is no deity worthy of worshiping but Him and Prophet Muhammad is His messenger.
Servants of Allah fear Him.
Ubadah ibn As-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated Allah’s Messenger (sallahu alayhi wa salim) said: “Guarantee me you’ll do six things and I guarantee you Jannah. Whenever you speak say the truth. Fulfill your promises when you make them. When you’re entrusted with something, carry out that trust. Safeguard your private parts, lower your gaze and prevent your hands from harming others.” Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn Hibban, Al-Hakim.
- “Whenever you speak say the truth”. “Abdullah reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “You must be truthful. Truthfulness leads to dutifulness and dutifulness leads to the Garden. A man continues to tell the truth until he is written as a siddiq with Allah. Beware of lying. Lying leads to deviance and deviance leads to the Fire. A man continues to lie until he is written as a liar with Allah.”
Among what make a Muslim to be telling the truth is not to speak about everything that he or she knows until he or she is certain about it and there something good coming out of it putting in mind the reward of telling the truth and the punishment of telling lie and that everyone is responsible of his or her sayings and actions. Allah says: “Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it)” (50:18). The prophet also said: “whosoever is believing in Allah and the Last Day should say good or shut up.” Be ware of spreading fake news and rumor.
- “Fulfill your promises when you make them” Muslims aren’t to break their promises or breach their contracts, oaths or pledges. Honoring a promise, oath or pledge is the foundation for building a good society. Included in this action are all trade, business, and mutual relations. Each and every one of these dealings is related to the community. Furthermore, these transactions and pledges stop at the fulfillment of a promise. Hence if the promise is broken then the trust is gone, and when that takes place mutual relations deteriorate and respect diminishes.
- “When you’re entrusted with something, carry out that trust” This is among the greatest traits of character which Allah praises. The Most High praises the people who carry out something they are entrusted to do. When a person does this action, it shows he has complete faith and good Islam. Carrying out trust preserves the religion, honor, wealth, body, soul, and knowledge, etc. The Prophet (sallahu alayhi wa salim) said, “The believer is the one the people trust with their wealth and life. Therefore, if trusts are carried out in the community the unity is strengthened and brotherhood grows stronger. And once these things occur goodness and blessings prevail and spread.
- “Safeguard your private parts. “This means you prevent them from doing Haraam or falling into illicit deeds. Allah says, “And those who guard their chastity (i.e., private parts, from illegal sexual acts) Except from their wives or that their right hands possess (concubines), for then, they are free from blame; But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors. [ Al-Mu’Minun: 5-7]. Safeguarding the private parts preserves and protects the offspring, lineage, cleans the society and is a security against evil and diseases.
- “lower your gaze. “This means you don’t look at what Shari’ah prescribed looking at as forbidden. Allah says, “Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.). That is purer for them. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) [An-Nur 30-31]. Lowering the gaze has many benefits. It gives a person the light and sweetness of faith. Furthermore, lowering the gaze strengthens the heart, purifies the soul and sets it straight. Through lowering the glance, a person is given a protection against looking at Haraam things and falling into sin. Keep your eyes protected from nudity, porn sites et c.
Another interpretation of this attribute, according to some scholars, as Allah said: “And do not stretch your eyes after that with which We have provided different classes of them, (of) the splendor of this world’s life, that We may thereby try them; and the sustenance (given) by your Lord is better and more abiding.” (20:131)
- “prevent your hands from harming others. “Do not engage in transgressing against them or placing something evil in their way. Doing so is a sign of bad character and inferiority. It does include using internet and especially social media to cause harm, unrest, destabilization. Hacking and application of ransomware, spyware is not less. Business e-mail compromise (BEC), Identity theft, Spoofing and phishing, Online predators, Sextortion,
Pyramid Schemes, internet fraud, Charity and Disaster Fraud, Advance Fee Schemes, among others, all cause harm. Blocking public passages and roads in the name of prayer is also included.
All attributes above do not contain any of the five pillars of Islam but yet leads to paradise. This shows that Islam is not about worship deeds (IBADAT) only. Transactions (MU’AMALAT) are also part and parcel of Islam. These attributes check the use of internet and especially social media. Lot of actions in the name of joke, prank cause harm. Personal attack, character assassination.
